CertainTeed Construction in Freedom, CA | Workshop Contractors
We provide independent CertainTeed installation and repair across Freedom, CA, from Landmark shingle roofs to CedarBoards siding on older Pajaro Valley homes. What makes our CertainTeed work different here comes down to one thing: Freedom has no city building department, so every permit and inspection runs through Santa Cruz County’s unincorporated-area process. We handle that county paperwork from day one, and we spec every CertainTeed assembly for coastal fog and damp winters, not desert heat. Call (844) 384-3361 for a free estimate on any CertainTeed project in Freedom.
Why Freedom Residents Choose Us for CertainTeed Service
CertainTeed roofing and siding perform differently in the Pajaro Valley than they do inland, and we’ve learned exactly how over years of working Freedom’s older in-town lots and rural parcels. Noel Figueroa, our owner and general contractor, started framing before he could rent a truck and has spent decades on projects where the finish work has to hold up under a second look. That background matters when you’re matching Landmark shingles on a roof that’s been wicking coastal damp for twenty years. We’re an independent CertainTeed installer, not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized, which means our recommendations come from what actually fails here and what the county will sign off on, not from a corporate script. We use CertainTeed-manufactured components across the assembly, and we patch or repair any roof or siding run that still has service life rather than pushing a tear-off you don’t need.

Common CertainTeed Construction Problems We Solve in Freedom
- Granule loss and seal-strip failure on Landmark shingles: Fog-belt moisture cycling on south- and west-facing slopes accelerates granule shedding when attic ventilation is undersized. We see this constantly on older in-town Freedom homes where ridge and soffit venting was never upgraded from the original build.
- Rotted fascia, sheathing edges, and drip-edge returns: Years of damp winters wick moisture into unsealed penetrations and valley flashing long before the shingles themselves show wear. On rural Freedom parcels with mature trees and heavy morning fog, this rot often extends further than the visible damage suggests.
- Failing underlayment beneath serviceable shingles: This one frustrates homeowners because the roof looks fine from the ground. The underlayment gives out first on older roofs in Freedom, and you only find it once the decking is opened up. It’s a scoping problem, not a shingle problem.
- Swelling and lap-joint separation on siding and trim: Rural and farm structures in the Pajaro Valley often have siding and trim that was never back-primed. Coastal damp gets behind the laps, and you see paint failure, swelling, and joints that pull apart by late winter.
- Storm damage from winter wind events: Freedom sits in a wind corridor during Pacific storms, and we regularly get calls for lifted shingles, damaged ridge caps, and flashing that’s pulled away from penetrations on the windward side of the property.
CertainTeed Service in Freedom: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Freedom is unincorporated Santa Cruz County, which means there is no city building department at all. Every CertainTeed roof replacement, addition, or outbuilding permit goes through the county’s process for unincorporated areas. Plan check and inspection timing are set by the county, not a Watsonville counter, and we’ve watched out-of-area crews show up with city paperwork that can’t even be accepted. That shapes how we run every CertainTeed job in the 95019 ZIP: we pull the county permit, we schedule the county inspection, and we build the assembly so it passes the first time. For homeowners on rural parcels outside the in-town grid, many of whom are on septic and well rather than municipal services, the county also reviews how a new roof or siding system interacts with existing structures. We handle that coordination as part of the job, because in Freedom it’s not optional and it’s not something a homeowner should be chasing down themselves.
CertainTeed Models & Products We Service in Freedom
We install and repair the CertainTeed lines that make sense for Pajaro Valley conditions: Landmark architectural shingles, Presidio and Presidential Shake premium shingles, Flintlastic self-adhered roofing and underlayment, and Vinyl Siding and CedarBoards insulated siding. For parts, we use CertainTeed-manufactured shingles, underlayment, ridge vent, starter, and matching accessories so the assembly stays within a single warranted system. We don’t mix in aftermarket components to save a few dollars, because that’s how warranty claims get denied and how roofs fail early. For repair work in Freedom, we keep common Landmark colors and starter strips on hand locally, which shortens turnaround when a storm lifts shingles or a leak shows up mid-winter. If a deck or trim section has gone soft from coastal damp, we replace only what failed and document it with photos for the county record.

FAQs – CertainTeed Construction in Freedom
Santa Cruz County permits every roof replacement in Freedom, because the community has no city building department. We pull the county permit ourselves and schedule the county inspection, so you’re not guessing at the process. Call (844) 384-3361 and we’ll walk you through what your specific property needs.
Yes, when the roof assembly is detailed for coastal damp: proper attic ventilation, sealed penetrations, and correctly lapped underlayment. Landmark shingles fail early in Freedom when ventilation is undersized and moisture gets trapped under the deck. We spec the full assembly, not just the shingle.
Often yes. If the shingles still have service life, we patch or repair the affected planes using matching CertainTeed materials, and we replace only the decking or flashing sections that have actually failed. When the underlayment has given out beneath otherwise good shingles, we open up only what’s necessary and document it for the county record. Call (844) 384-3361 and we’ll tell you straight whether repair or replacement makes sense.
Unbacked-primed siding and trim on farm structures and older rural homes absorbs coastal moisture, which causes swelling, paint failure, and lap separation. Our Corralitos CertainTeed service includes back-priming every cut edge and end grain on CertainTeed siding and trim we install, and we replace only the sections that have gone soft rather than re-siding an entire structure.
Most CertainTeed Landmark roof replacements in Freedom fall between $8,000 and $20,000, with the final number set by roof size, pitch, decking condition, and any county-required ventilation or underlayment upgrades. Metal roof installation runs $15,000 to $40,000. Call (844) 384-3361 for a line-item quote on your roof.
