Unilock Construction in Crestline, CA | Workshop Contractors

We provide independent Unilock paver, wall, and driveway construction across Crestline, with a focus on the two things that fail most often up here: freeze-thaw heave and base failure on steep grades. Most Unilock problems in Crestline aren’t the pavers themselves. They’re what’s underneath them. Call (844) 384-3361 for a free estimate on new paver work or repairs, and we’ll tell you honestly whether you need a patch or a rebuild.

We’re Workshop Contractors, a licensed general contractor offering Highland Unilock service and working throughout the San Bernardino Mountain communities. We install Unilock pavers, retaining walls, and driveways, and we service existing Unilock work that’s starting to fail. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with or authorized by Unilock, so our recommendation is always based on what will actually hold up in Crestline conditions, not on moving a specific product line. That distinction matters when you’re deciding between resanding a driveway and tearing it out to the subgrade.

Why Crestline Residents Choose Us for Unilock Service

Noel Figueroa, our owner and general contractor, grew up in the Vineyard neighborhood of Ontario and started working job sites around the Inland Empire before he was old enough to rent a truck. He learned the fundamentals at Chaffey College’s construction technology program, and he’s spent the decades since working on everything from ground-up residential builds to full commercial tenant improvements, including Unilock repair in Muscoy and throughout the Inland Empire. Around Ontario, he’s known for the finish work that holds up under a second look.

What that means for your Unilock project in Crestline is this: we understand base prep, drainage, and slope stabilization at a level that only comes from doing the work, not from reading a product brochure. We also carry Unilock sales & service knowledge across the full scope of the system, from edge restraint and geotextile to the paver units themselves. Build it right the first time. The second time costs twice as much and nobody’s happy about it.

When a Crestline homeowner calls us about a paver driveway that’s rutting or a retaining wall that’s starting to bulge, we look at the base first. We don’t sell you a resand and call it fixed. That’s the difference between a contractor who understands Unilock systems and one who just lays pavers.

Common Unilock Construction Problems We Solve in Crestline

  • Freeze-thaw heave and cracked joint sand. Crestline winters cycle through freeze and thaw repeatedly, and at 4,500 feet the ground doesn’t just freeze once, it works like a slow-moving jack. If the base wasn’t excavated deep enough or compacted in proper lifts, pavers pop and joint sand crumbles within a couple of seasons. We re-excavate, compact in lifts, and reset the field so the freeze-thaw has nothing to grab onto.
  • Rutting and edge spread on steep driveways. Many Crestline driveways are pitched steep enough that a standard base just won’t hold. We see paver fields laid over granitic soil without geotextile separation, and the first heavy rain pushes the fines right through the stone. The pavers migrate, the edges spread, and tire tracks rut within a year or two. Geotextile and a proper subbase fix it, not more pavers on top.
  • Joint sand washout after heavy seasonal rain. Crestline gets real rain, and when drainage isn’t sloped away from the structure, water channels through the joints and carries the sand out with it. The pavers stay in place for a while, then start shifting. We rebuild the drainage plane and use polymeric joint sand so the system sheds water instead of absorbing it.
  • Retaining wall settlement and bulging. Uni-Stone walls on a Crestline slope fail when someone backfilled with soil instead of drainage aggregate, or skipped the geogrid entirely. The freeze-thaw cycle swells the soil behind the wall, and the wall leans out. We rebuild with proper drainage, aggregate backfill, and geogrid reinforcement where the slope calls for it.
  • Ember and fire-clearance conflicts. This one catches people off guard. A paver patio or driveway edge planned without thinking about CAL FIRE defensible-space rules can leave you with vegetation too close to the structure or hardscape that doesn’t help your clearance. We plan paver work in Crestline with the tree line and the structure in mind, not just the look.

Unilock Service in Crestline: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Here’s the thing most Unilock pages won’t tell you about Crestline. We’re in the wildland-urban interface, inside the San Bernardino National Forest, and CAL FIRE defensible-space rules plus WUI building codes apply to paver work in ways they never do down in the valley. An ember-resistant, noncombustible paver drive or patio doesn’t just look good, it’s part of your defensible space, a firebreak between the tree line and your cabin. We regularly plan paver projects in Crestline around vegetation clearance and structure setbacks, not just the footprint of the patio. Up on the steeper, tree-packed lots off Lake Gregory Drive or in the areas around Valley of Enchantment, you also can’t always get a concrete truck or dumpster to the work zone, which is why we also plan Lake Arrowhead Unilock service projects around similar access constraints. We plan small loads, pump trucks where needed, and hand-carried material. That’s not a generic hardscape consideration. It’s how construction actually happens in Crestline.

This also means that any Unilock work up here has to be planned around access before the first paver gets pulled off a pallet. If we can’t get a full-size dump trailer up your grade, we’re bringing material up in a pickup or a small tracked carrier, one lift at a time. It costs a little more. It’s also the only way to do the job without tearing up your road or getting a truck stuck halfway up the hill.

Unilock Models & Products We Service in Crestline

We work with Unilock’s ICPI-certified interlocking paver systems across the board, and we know the product lines that show up most often on Crestline properties. Brussels Block, the tumbled full-color concrete paver, is probably the most common paver on mountain driveways. Beacon Hill, the flagstone-style paver, shows up a lot on patios and walkways. Uni-Stone wall block is the traditional choice for retaining walls and planter edges. And Town Hall pavers, in both permeable and standard configurations, work well for drives and patios where you want a cleaner module.

For repairs and tie-ins, we use Unilock’s own matching pavers, edge restraint, and wall units so the color and module match the existing field. We also keep quality geotextile, compacted aggregate, and polymeric joint sand on hand for the repairs we do most often in Crestline. If the paver field is heaved or rutting because the base failed, we tell you plainly it’s a base rebuild, not a patch. Resanding a failed install just buys you one more winter.
