PGT Construction in Sausalito, CA | Workshop Contractors
We install, service, and replace PGT windows and doors across Sausalito, and the one thing that makes our PGT work here different is the hillside. Most PGT failures we see on rear and side elevations aren’t product defects. They’re what happens when a pier-and-crib foundation settles and racks the rough opening out of square, then salt air off Richardson Bay goes to work on whatever gap opens up. If you need independent PGT service in Sausalito, call (844) 384-3361 and we’ll come look at the actual condition, not the brochure.
We are Workshop Contractors, a general contractor that has worked PGT windows and doors into hillside rebuilds and retrofits across Sausalito for years. We’re not authorized, sponsored, or warranty-backed by PGT. We’re an PGT sales & service firm that knows the product lines, how they age in marine air, and what it takes to make them fit an old pier-and-crib opening. That last part is the part most window companies never deal with until they’re standing on a slope with a unit that won’t square up.
Why Sausalito Residents Choose Us for PGT Service
Sausalito homes aren’t like flatland Marin homes. The streets climbing the hills above Bridgeway put the front door at street level while the house drops two or three stories behind it. That means rear and side PGT replacements get staged from the street and built out on scaffolding hung down the hillside. We’ve done it enough times that it’s just how the job starts here, not a special circumstance.
Noel Figueroa, our owner and General Contractor in Sausalito, came up around this kind of work. He grew up in Ontario’s Vineyard neighborhood, learned construction technology at Chaffey College, and has spent decades on jobs from ground-up residential to full commercial tenant improvements. Around job sites he’s known for finish work that holds up under a second look. That matters when you’re re-flashing a head on a downslope wall that takes wind-driven rain for four months straight. We source and install under one contract, which on a Sausalito hillside means the person re-squaring the opening is the same crew setting the window. That single point of accountability is exactly what a racked opening needs, because the framer and the window installer aren’t pointing at each other when something still leaks.

Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Sausalito
Here’s what we actually find when we open up PGT units on these hills. This isn’t a generic list. Each one ties to something specific about Sausalito’s climate or housing stock.
- Seized rollers and dragging slider panels. Marine fog and salt air off Richardson Bay corrode steel rollers, hinges, and fasteners on WinGuard sliders faster than anywhere inland. Tracks seize within a few seasons if the hardware isn’t stainless and gets re-lubricated on a schedule. We swap to OEM stainless hardware and set the track right.
- Racked vinyl frames that bind and leak at the corners. Homes built on wood piers and timber cribs settle over decades. A vinyl WinGuard frame forced into a moving opening starts binding, the weatherstripping gaps, and the sash leaks at the corners. The window looks fine from inside. The opening is the problem.
- Degraded glazing gaskets and failed builder flashing. Sun-and-fog cycling on older aluminum WinGuard units breaks down gaskets and sealant. On hillside walls exposed to wind-driven rain, the original builder flashing at the head is usually the first thing to go. We see this constantly on walls that face the weather, not the street.
- Rot in the sheathing and sill behind a PGT unit that looks fine from the interior. Downslope-facing walls on cantilevered homes take more driven moisture than the street-facing elevation. By the time water shows up inside, the sill and sheathing behind the flange have often been wet for a season or two.
- New PGT units that don’t fit openings built in the 1920s. Sausalito’s early-1900s shingled and stucco hillside cottages weren’t framed for modern impact-rated units. Rough openings are odd sizes, out of square, and often carrying load in ways a standard replacement window doesn’t account for. We re-frame before we set glass, and that’s the difference between a window that works for a decade and one that starts binding in year two.
PGT Service in Sausalito: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
On the hillside streets above Bridgeway, PGT repair in Belvedere and similar rear and side elevation replacements are routinely staged from the street and built out on scaffolding hung down the hill. That’s a logistics problem flatland Mill Valley or Corte Madera jobs never have, and it changes how we scope the work. A bank of three WinGuard aluminum sliders on a downslope wall can’t just get carried through the house and popped into the opening. We have to get the units down two stories of scaffolding, remove the old frames without dropping anything onto the neighbor’s deck below, and set the new units against an opening that has likely moved since the original build. The staging alone adds time and care that a flat-lot bid will never include, and the permit plan check for a cantilevered addition or window and door change often pulls geotech review because the town wants to know the slope is stable before anyone cuts a bigger opening into it.
We saw this play out on a shingled cottage climbing the hills above Bridgeway. Our crew replaced a bank of downslope PGT WinGuard aluminum sliders that had been racked out of square by settling piers, letting fog-driven rain leak at the sill. We staged the new units from the street above, built scaffolding down the slope, sistered and re-squared the rough opening, re-flashed the head against driven moisture, and set fresh WinGuard sliders with stainless hardware. The rear rooms are now dry through the winter rains. The window units were good. The opening is what failed them.
PGT Models & Products We Service in Sausalito
We work across the PGT lines that show up most often on Sausalito hillsides and waterfront walls, including Tiburon PGT service areas nearby. PGT WinGuard Aluminum in fixed and sliding configurations is common on bay-facing walls where impact rating matters and the marine air is hard on hardware. PGT WinGuard Vinyl double-hungs and sliders show up frequently as retrofits on older cottages originally built with wood sash. The PGT Architectural Series, a custom aluminum line for larger openings, fits modern rebuilds and the bigger glass walls some owners want on the downslope side. We also service the PGT Sentinel by PGT vinyl line for new construction and replacement work.
Whenever a unit is serviceable, we use OEM PGT hardware, glazing, and weatherstripping, because matching the original profile and impact rating matters on these homes. When a frame is racked, corroded, or the opening has moved, we tell owners honestly that repair is throwing money at a failing assembly. A full-frame replacement is the real fix, and we’ll say so plainly before we quote anything.

FAQs – PGT Construction in Sausalito
Salt air off Richardson Bay corrodes the steel rollers and tracks faster than inland locations, and if the home sits on wood piers or cribs, settling racks the track out of alignment. The fix is usually stainless OEM hardware and, when the opening has moved, re-squaring the rough opening before the panel will ever ride clean. Call (844) 384-3361 and we’ll tell you which problem you actually have.
Yes. We stage from the street above and build scaffolding down the hillside. That’s standard practice for rear and side elevations on Sausalito’s steeper lots. The job takes more time and care than a flat-lot replacement, and the bid should reflect that. Ours always does.
On hillside lots, probably. When the addition is cantilevered or sits on piers and cribs, the town often wants geotech sign-off before plan check approves a bigger opening. We pull permits and work with the geotech engineer, so the review doesn’t stall your project.
It can be, if the wall is properly flashed and the opening is square. WinGuard Aluminum is impact-rated and common on bay-facing walls, but marine air is hard on hardware, so stainless fasteners and regular re-lubrication matter. We’ll tell you if WinGuard fits your wall, or if another PGT line or a different product is the better call for that exposure. Call (844) 384-3361 and we’ll walk the wall with you.
No. We’re an independent general contractor that has worked PGT products into Sausalito hillside and waterfront homes for years. We’re not sponsored or warranty-backed by PGT, and we’re not obligated to push their line. We specify PGT when it’s the right product for the conditions, and we say so plainly when it isn’t.
